Measuring your windows for blinds could not be easier.
We have created an easy to follow set of instructions below to provide a guide for how you measure your windows for blinds as well as a youtube video at the bottom of the page to walk you through the process.
Before you start measuring you will need to decide if you want to fit your blinds inside or outside the window recess. You will enter this selection when ordering all made to measure blinds on our website.
You will also need:
A steel tape measure as steel tape measures are better than fabric ones as they do not stretch so ensure accurate measurements.
Some paper
A pen
Measuring for inside the recess.
Using a steel measuring tape, measure across the exact width of your window. You need to take a measurement from the top, the centre and at the bottom of the window.
You will need to take the smallest of these measurements to order your blinds.
Remember to always measure your window exactly and always give us the exact size with no deductions. We will make minor deductions to ensure your blind fits into the recess size you have given.
Next you will measure the exact height of the window opening. From the very top of the window recess down to the surface of the window sill. Again you will need to make three different measurements.
From the left, the centre and from the right side of the window opening. This time you’ll be using the largest of these three measurements to order your blinds.
Measuring for outside the recess.
To fit the blind outside the window recess you can either fit the blind onto the window trim or the surrounding wall.
If you are fixing to the surrounding wall, start by measuring the exact space to be covered adding sufficient space either side to provide optimum light control and privacy - We recommend adding approximately 100mm either side but this can be a matter of personal preference.
You will then measure the height of the window to be covered in 3 different places to ensure the window is square, adding 150mm to allow for mounting brackets, optimum light control and privacy.
You will use the longest of these 3 measurements to order. If you are mounting your brackets onto the outer trim of the window then you will measure from the outer most flat surface left to right and then deduct 3mm to allow for the end mounted brackets.
If you are ever unsure about anything please call or email us before ordering your blinds as our manufacturers cannot take any responsibility for errors in ordering.
Remember to always take your measurements in centimetres as this is the only way you can order your blinds online.
